Looking for dental crowns or a dental bridge in Winchester, VA? Dr. Radwa Sobieh provides both at Winchester Dental Studio.

A crown repairs a tooth you still have. A bridge replaces a tooth you’ve lost. This page explains the difference so you know which one you might need.

Dental Crowns

A crown caps the visible part of a broken or decayed tooth, restoring its strength and protecting it from further damage. Our Winchester team also uses crowns to finish dental implants and root canal therapy. A traditional crown takes two appointments. At the first, we prepare the tooth, take impressions and place a temporary crown. When your final crown arrives, Dr. Radwa Sobieh places it and checks that the look and feel are right.

Dental Bridges

Are you missing one or more teeth in a row? For patients who can’t afford dental implants or simply aren’t the right candidates for the procedure, dental bridges offer a similar sturdy, lifelike result. A bridge is designed to seamlessly blend in with natural teeth, and additional crowns fit over nearby healthy teeth, anchoring it in place. The prosthetic is not removable and should be cared for in the same way as the rest of your smile. Like dental crowns, bridges also typically require two appointments to receive. Patients from Winchester and beyond are welcome to contact us today and schedule an appointment!

Crown, Bridge or Implant: Which Do You Need?

  • Your tooth is cracked, badly decayed or had a root canal: a dental crown covers and protects it.
  • A tooth is missing and the teeth beside it already need crowns: a dental bridge fills the gap and crowns those teeth in one step.
  • A tooth is missing and the teeth beside it are healthy: a single tooth implant replaces it without filing down healthy teeth.

Crown and Bridge FAQs

How long do crowns and bridges last?

Often ten years or more. Brushing, flossing under the bridge with a floss threader and wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth all help them last.

Why is the gum around my crown dark or grey?

Older crowns often have a metal layer that shows as a dark line when the gum pulls back. Dark or purple gum can also mean gum inflammation around the crown. If it bothers you, an all-ceramic crown has no metal to show through. Have us check it at your next visit.

Does getting a crown or bridge hurt?

The tooth is numbed while we shape it, so most people feel pressure, not pain. Mild sensitivity for a few days after is common.
